As a Speech Language Pathologist..
With over 30 years of experience working with preK - early elementary aged students in a variety of therapeutic settings, my first and foremost passion is connecting with kids while supporting their speech and language development. A close second includes creating resources that promote connection & engagement.
The Story behind Speech Hamster
How did Speech Hamster come to be? In an attempt to find a work / life balance I thought it would be important to "find a hobby". It seemed like an easy goal. It wasn't. (Unless of course sitting on the couch under a blanket counted which I've been told it does not.) Sure, I enjoy activities such as golfing, reading, traveling and writing but not consistently enough to consider them hobbies.
Then came 2020. Faced with learning how to navigate online teaching, I began trying my hand at creating digital resources that were specific to the needs of my caseload. Little did I know how much I would enjoy creating. I was immediately hooked and a hobby was born! I've been creating ever since, eventually broadening my resources to include both print and digital.
The Name
Why Speech Hamster?
Although there are many days that feel like being on a hamster wheel (am I right?), this is not the context behind the name. Long story short, I do "Speech". My hometown is Bellingham, which makes me a Belling"Hamster". Voila! Speech Hamster. That's it. There's the name. Although now I'm wondering if the whole hamster wheel thing was a subliminal factor after all!
